The .257 Weatherby Magnum is a belted magnum cartridge, firing a 110gr bullet in the neighborhood of 3300 ft/sec, out of a full-length rifle barrel.
With regards to terminal effectiveness, this cartridge offers a great deal to the shooter due to its larger bullet diameter (compared to the commonly-available high-velocity 22 calibers) and high velocity (relative to most of the 30 caliber family).
Using a heavier, controlled expansion bullet, this cartridge can likely be used for felling any game animal in North America.
