The .400 Cor-Bon cartridge consists of a .45ACP case, necked down to fire .40S&W/10mm Auto bullets. Such a configuration provides all of the velocity of the 10mm Auto cartridge, with the added benefit of the utilization of a bottleneck cartridge.
Bottleneck cartridges provide a theoretical increase in semi-automatic firearm feed reliability, when compared to a straight-walled cartridge (such as .40S&W and .45ACP). Firearms chambered for this cartridge are typically available on a semi-custom basis from pistol manufacturers and are available to most .45ACP owners with a simple change of barrels and recoil springs.
