The .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire is generally regarded as a high velocity, low-recoiling varmint cartridge. Velocity of this cartridge approximates that of the 7.62x39mm, albeit with a projectile weight almost 1/6 that of the AK-47 cartridge. It's effect on small varmints should be excellent.
