The .30 Carbine is most commonly found in the US M-1 Carbine - a WWII-era rifle that is a ballistic go-between of a handgun and a medium-caliber rifle. In concept and fact, it is one of the first assault rifle cartridges.
Using soft-point or hollowpoint ammunition, this rifle is more than adequate for self-defense and marginal for medium-game hunting. The light recoil of the M-1 Carbine and its smooth ergonomics make it usable by people of all physical dispositions : to include women, responsible children, as well as the largest man. Though the cost of these firearms has increased in recent years, a quality M-1 Carbine may be purchased for slightly more than a Ruger Mini-14 but costs less than an AR15.
