The THV round originated in France and was designed to give handguns the
ability to penetrate bullet-resistant vests and incapacitate the target
behind it. The tested cartridge is said to have originated in Slovakia
and is a locally-made interpretation of the all-brass French bullet.
Shot fired from 10 feet distance. Ballistic gelatin block was faced
with a NIJ II-A rated vest, manufactured by Point Blank Body Armor,
Inc. Bullet impacted at 1502 ft/sec, penetrated the bullet resistant
vest and continued on into the gelatin block. At a penetration depth of
4.4" the bullet turned on its side and produced a maximum crack diameter
of 2.0" at a penetration depth of 5.9". Maximum penetration depth was
13.6".
Bullet was recovered at 70.6gr, 0.355" average diameter and 0.613" length.
