Cartridge : 9x19mm Luger 71gr Slovakian THV armor piercing bullet

Firearm : Glock 19 with 4.0" barrel length

Block calibration : 8.2cm @ 584 ft/sec and 38.3 degrees Fahrenheit

The THV round originated in France and was designed to give handguns the ability to penetrate bullet-resistant vests and incapacitate the target behind it. The tested cartridge is said to have originated in Slovakia and is a locally-made interpretation of the all-brass French bullet.

Shot fired from 10 feet distance. Ballistic gelatin block was faced with a NIJ II-A rated vest, manufactured by Point Blank Body Armor, Inc. Bullet impacted at 1502 ft/sec, penetrated the bullet resistant vest and continued on into the gelatin block. At a penetration depth of 4.4" the bullet turned on its side and produced a maximum crack diameter of 2.0" at a penetration depth of 5.9". Maximum penetration depth was 13.6".

Bullet was recovered at 70.6gr, 0.355" average diameter and 0.613" length.
