The 5.45x39mm cartridge was developed concurrently with the AK-74 assault rifle. Utilizing full metal jacketed ammunition (which, as sold by Wolf, is essentially the only ammunition available for this rifle in the United States), the AK-74 series rifle will without exception meet FBI penetration criteria in ballistic gelatin.
Additionally, this round has a tendancy to turn sideways during travel through the ballistic gelatin block, giving it greater penetration than the fragmenting US M855 bullet/cartridge.
