           A necked-down .22 Magnum, the .17HMR attains higher velocity and features lighter bullet weights than the host cartridge.  This cartridge can be relied upon to kill animals up to coyote size.  We do not recommend this cartridge for self-defense unless it is your only choice - FMJ bullets are available for this cartridge which will provide adequate penetration but limited damage.
