.22 Long Rifle (Handgun) |
|
A longtime favorite of both recreational and professional shooters, the .22LR is the most popular cartridge sold in the US and also accounts for most of the firearm fatalities. There is nothing about this caliber that makes it peculiarly more lethal than any other caliber—the relatively high number of fatalities has more to do with the availability of such firearms for law-abiding uses. Unfortunately, this abundance also means that the guns are correspondingly more likely to be used in suicide, accidents and homicide than other calibers. For recreational use and teaching new shooters to shoot safely and accurately—we highly recommend the .22LR. Recoil is very low as is the noise upon firing and ammunition is inexpensive. Some people chose to carry .22LR handguns for self-defense. Unless you are very accurate with your weapon, we do not recommend shooting a .22LR for this purpose. The initial kinetic energy of such firearms is very low—you would be much better off with a .25ACP or .32ACP for roughly the same size firearm. |
