.22LR (rifle)

The majority of .22LR cartridges appear to be loaded to take advantage of the longer barrel lengths found in rifles.  Due to the slower-burning propellant, muzzle velocities from handguns are limited.  Utilizing a rifle brings this cartridge into a higher effectiveness rung, though it is not in the same ballpark as the 5.56x45mm and similar cartridges.
