44 Special

The .44 Special cartridge is a lower-energy version of the .44 Magnum and is a very good choice in revolvers for self-defense.  If you can shoot a .44 Magnum quickly and accurately, we recommend that you utilize that caliber.  However, we must point out that finding a shooter who is competent with a practically-sized .44 Magnum is unlikely.  For 95% of the shooting public, .44 Special is a fine choice for self-defense.
