The 300AAC BLACKOUT cartridge offers a larger diameter bullet than 5.56x45mm weapons, which indicates a potential for greater kinetic energy at the muzzle and far downrange of the weapon. Since the cartridge diameter of the BLACKOUT is similar to the 5.56x45mm, this cartridge is readily adaptable to existing 5.56mm weapons. Understanding that the majority of future wars and civilian self-defense situations will occur in urban areas and at close range, rifles with shorter barrels are beginning to become the norm. The larger neck to case diameter ratio of the BLACKOUT allows it to be more efficient than 5.56x45mm weapons in short barrel rifles. |
